Hear from Ben Onukwube, bETA Atlanta ’23 alum and owner of Star Nsurance + Tax, to hear about his post-acquisition journey and what he’s learned as a first-time owner.
Ben began his ETA journey in the summer of 2023.
He signed an LOI that fall and closed in November, officially stepping into ownership at Star Nsurance + Tax. Since then, he’s been focused on strengthening operations, growing the brand, and serving his local community.
Ben on the challenges and wins post-acquisition:
We’ve made it through every season of our business. We’ve expanded our product line, invested in branding, technology, and community engagement, and added virtual assistants to boost productivity. It’s been challenging, but we’re on a path to improve this business.”
One major shift?
Letting go of employees who weren’t aligned with our vision and building a better recruiting process. We’ve also deployed new tech and are managing the change that comes with that. Now, we’re navigating macro-level administrative changes that affect our business and core clientele.
Why his work matters:
Our focus is being the ‘local neighborhood agency.’ We help clients understand financial protection and competent tax preparation. We keep the ground from moving out from under them, with affordable access to insurance products and the knowledge to use them.
His advice to future owners:
Lean on your community—during the process and after you close. It will get hard, and you need people who understand the journey to support you through it.
